Chimera High Ability Riddle Test (CHART)

Chimera High Ability Riddle Test (CHART) This 60 item untimed test consists entirely of riddles, and was designed to measure verbal ability. Most of the problems range from easy to moderate in difficulty, making this test much more popular than our shorter but significantly harder CORE riddle test (also findable on this site). The CHART was published in several high IQ newsletters in the late 1990s, and was previously used by at least 2 high IQ societies for admissions purposes. All of the riddles were written by Bill Bultas, President of, LLC and webmaster of this site.

You may use offline and online resources (books, web searches, etc.) to solve these problems, but please do not use the help of anyone else (online or offline), and please do not take this test if you have seen the answers to it (they appeared on our web site for years, but were removed before the test was moved to All IQ Tests).

A page with all 60 riddles that you can print or otherwise use to assist you can be found at

Some of the problems are very difficult, and several may contain words, names or terms with which you may be unfamiliar. Be sure to answer every problem, even if this means guessing on some problems. There are no penalties for guessing.

There is no time limit. For most tests on we recommend you spend no more than 1 or 2 sessions before submitting your answers, but this test is hard enough that you may want to spend more time than that to maximize your score.

NOTE: Correct spelling is REQUIRED for your answers to be counted correctly. Our system will only count correctly spelled answers. If in doubt, always consult an online or offline dictionary or encyclopedia.

Your estimated IQ score, general population percentile ranking, and the answers to the problems are all provided when you complete the test.
